Sound showers and talking benches

As part of Undervejs, Obernkarbi developed concept and material for an outdoor sound installation at the festival WorldWideWords. The setup was to install soundscapes playing from benches, portals and along a forest path using my Rolen Star transducers and multichannel audiosystems.

The task given by the festival was to do a work inspired by the languaging of contemporary youth compared to the thoughts on language by Grundtvig, a danish national litterate and philosopher.

Background material on Grundtvig was gathered as well as raw material from socio-linguistic research by professor Jens Normann Jørgensen, whom I also interviewed on the topic.

This soundbit is an stereomixdown of an excerpt from the 8 channel system along the forest path.

Sound-Oases

This project I did as part of the duo Undervejs, and with a large production team plus a group of performers. Undervejs was invited by a local urban renewal office in Copenhagen to take charge of the development and production of a large urban space art-project as part of the festival Light&Sound (LysLyd), that featured artistic productions made in cooperation between governmental, commercial and artistic actors around greater Copenhagen.

We came up with a nomadic sound-installation-performance consisting of 2 huge (and heavy!) metalcages connected with a custom-made speaker system in glowing fiberglass that travelled around in a local district of Copenhagen during august 2009, playing soundscapes made from native sounds and interviews with inhabitants of the district.

The cages where designed so audience could sit down in a ‘well of soundscapes’, isolating them from the public space ambience. The sculptural nomadism was supported by 5 thematically staged audio-walks with a group of performers using specially designed audio-suitcases as a supporting scenographic element to the urban spaces.

As part of the festival Light&Sound in august 2009, Undervejs was in charge of developing concept and engaging the youth of a culture house in Herlev, Denmark, in doing an event in their own public environment.

The project Hemmeligheder i Herlev Syd (Secrets in Southern Herlev) opened up the everyday life and challenges of the youth to a greater audience, by taking participants on a staged path from the metrostation to the youth house.

Cellphone soundinstallation for city anniversary

As part of the 100 year anniversary of the city of Herlev, Undervejs was hired to do an art installation in cooperation with the youth culture house Radiatorfabrikken.

We developed an interactive soundinstallation on the base of a lighttower that could be called from a cellphone.
